This webpage is the main webpage for the Wood Family. It contains information pertaining to the family tree of the Wood Family, and it also contains information about current members of the Family, and about the Family itself. There are public notices here, which usually pertain to various services, and services that are shared with ylur.me and other websites that are hosted at the same premises. If you have arrived here because you are the recipient of a redirected/reissued e-mail, you may be able to find more information in the Notices section.

Restalrig Church, Restalrig

Restalrig /rɛˈstælrɪx/ rest-AL-rikh is the suburb of Edinburgh from which the Wood family originates. Alexander Wood (see /history) is known to have lived here, and William Wood, Lord Alexander Wood, and Andrew Wood were buried in the graveyard of Restalrig Church (shown above). Most Wood Family members today live either in Great Britain or South Africa; there are some of whom I am aware who live in North America. I only know, however, of living Wood Family members descendant from Christopher Wood, so there could easily be more widespread Woods. I believe that at one time many members of the family lived in Rutland, but this could be wrong; I don't see how this fits into the Family Tree.

This website focuses mainly on the Wood Family that stems from one (there are many) Alexander Wood. The date given at the top, however (1020) is the supposed year of the birth of Guillaume de Boissay (engl. William of Boissay, William Wood). Apparently later Woods (such as another William de Bosco) are descended from him (note, this is still in the 13th century). All of these Woods were Norman nobles. While I don't know the exact descent, I think that it is safe to say that the Wood family is descended from Guillaume's family. The village of Boissay is about 20km from Rouen.
